CONSTITUTION

ARTICLE I


Name


The Name of the organization shall be "International Guild of Musicians in Dance."


ARTICLE II


Objectives


The International Guild of Musicians in Dance is a professional organization dedicated to the development, exploration and advancement of the unique art form of those musicians who have devoted their artistry to the world of dance.


In seeking to achieve these purposes:


We will create opportunities for bringing together musicians in dance;


We will collect and disseminate information regarding the profession;


We will publish the International Guild of Musicians in Dance. Journal;


We will act to create standards of excellence in the profession while maintaining a freedom of expression that allows for all artistic points of view to be heard and explored;


We will create clear educational goals for the training of musicians in the field;


We will develop guidelines to clarify the profession within the world of academe and the dance community;


We will continue to educate dancers about music and the interaction of music and dance;


and,


We will be dedicated to maintaining an international voice to be heard on issues relevant to the field, particularly as they would affect our stated objectives.


ARTICLE III


Membership shall be open to anyone who is interested in the objectives of the Guild.


ARTICLE IV


Dues


To meet the expenses of the Guild, an annual fee shall be paid by each member, the amount to be determined at each annual meeting of the membership.


ARTICLE V


Government


The government of the Guild shall be vested in the Steering Committee, which is composed of the four Officers (President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer) and the chairs of the standing committees.


ARTICLE VI


Committees


Committees are established to carry on the programs of the Guild. Standing Committees are as follows:


1. Conference Committee

2. Editorial Board


The Conference Chair and Co-chair are the hosts of each annual conference. The Editor is the chair of the Editorial Board.


ARTICLE VII


Historian


In order to maintain accurate archival records of the activities of the Guild and its membership an historian will be appointed.


ARTICLE VIII


There will be an annual election with a slate of nominees to be prepared from the membership before the annual meeting. All nominees must be regular members in good standing.


ARTICLE IX


Meetings


There will be an annual meeting of the Guild to be held in conjunction with the annual conference.


ARTICLE X


Amendments


The Constitution of the Guild may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the members present at an annual meeting, provided a written notice of the proposed amendment be sent to all members at least four weeks before said meeting.
